SHELLAC  POLISHES

Timeless beauty, unmatched clarity — the classic shellac finish.

Although “French Polish” is often used as a general term for all types of shellac-based finishes, it also refers to a distinct shellac color traditionally used in fine furniture finishing. Over the years, many shellac blends have been developed, but French Polish remains the gold standard for achieving a rich, high-gloss finish with exceptional depth.

Shellac is one of the most versatile and elegant finishing materials available. It has been prized for centuries for its ability to:

  • Enhance the natural grain of wood

  • Serve as a non-reactive barrier between incompatible finishes

  • Deliver a deep, luminous clarity unmatched by modern lacquers or polyurethanes

✨ Characteristics:

  • Classic gloss finish with striking visual depth

  • Quick-drying, easy to apply in thin layers

  • Ideal for antiques, musical instruments, and fine furniture

  • Can be spot-repaired or renewed without stripping the whole finish

⚠️ Care Considerations:

While French Polish is beautiful and reasonably durable, it is also:

  • Sensitive to alcohol and solvents

  • Moderately resistant to heat and moisture

To maintain its appearance, use placemats and coasters to protect against spills and heat damage.
